Winter Japan Trip 2011-2012

It started to snow in Niigata, so I took a short break from working on Husband Honeymoon #2 to take a walk.

Testing my new camera's low-light capabilities. Pretty good!

It's been over 10 years since I last saw snow, so I was pretty excited.
I even got to shovel snow!
It was so fun.

Happy April!

Happy April!

And Happy April Fool's Day!

A few things.
Starting today is Autism Awareness Month!

If you see buildings lit up with blue lights, they are participating in the Light It Up Blue movement.
April 2 is Autism Awareness Day, and there are various events going on around the world!

I realized that it's been 5 years doing this blog.
Now I feel so old.

5 years ago around this time I was...

...working on Paprika!

Wow. Time flies...

...

...

Okay, back to work.
Have a safe April Fool's Day, everyone!

Oh, please also check out the current Company G website's illustration.
"Wish Upon the Pleiades"
Nanako (purple hair) looks so cute!

Also, please continue to spread the word about the anime...
I would like the number of views on the English version to catch up to Japanese version.

"When it Rains, It Pours!"

I got more work today.

I finished Shugo Chara #12...two days ago? I can't remember anymore. It's all a blur.

I'm currently working on another manga series.
The anime is completely done with, and it should be available soon.
The manga series + this new work is going to kill me.
I have to finish three volumes in the next three weeks, because I have a business trip coming up.
(More on that another day).

The new work is a video game.
Even though I'm sharing the game with another translator (I've worked with her before),
it's still...400,000 Japanese characters.
(I got the number from my client).

I just opened the file and it's...wow, pretty overwhelming.

So I gave up on the two parties hosted by two different friends this weekend.
I will be watching Super Bowl alone.
Seriously.

The title of this entry is from my friend A,
who is describing the amount of work I'm getting.

Anyway...wish me luck!

Oh, and happy setsubun!
Hopefully we can all keep the oni away.

New Business Cards

My cell phone number changed a while ago (actually, a long time ago),
so I've been meaning to reprint my business cards.

I also got a semi-permanent Japanese cell phone number and I wanted to include that too.

I've been sitting on this task, but since I'll be visiting a certain animation studio up north,
I thought this would be a good time to finally do it.

I only meant to print 250 this time around...
But the printing company had a promotion for 500 cards.
(It was basically the same price).

Sigh...

I'm never going to pass out 500 cards.

The cards are coming in 2 weeks.

Thanks to my great designer friend F for the design!!

Few Projects...

Okay, so I finished Shugo Chara #11 and Code Geass Queen #3 this past weekend.

I was starting on a new series (still unannounced) when...

I got two emails from two separate clients on Tuesday morning.

It was to translate one game and one anime series.
And one episode of the game was to be turned in on Thursday.

For a while, I couldn't handle the amount of work that was about to come, so I went out and bought some manga.
(I was escaping reality)

Because right now, I have...
One game.
One anime series.
Five manga volumes.

All due in the next month and a half.

I'll probably have a deadline every other day?
The game and anime are to be turned in little by little, so...

It's going to be a busy start to 2011.
Wish me luck!

Working Through the Holidays

Shoooooooooot!
I haven't updated for so long...wow...

I've been working here and there...
Obviously still working on the Code Geass anthologies...
I haven't seen the final product or reviews.
If you have comments, please send them my way...
Or if you know of reviews, please send me links.

Around Thanksgiving I got more work. Just as I was heading off to Hawaii.
So it was pretty hectic.

I'm not sure if I can talk about them.
Let me check...

***After 2 minutes***

Okay, I don't see it on the company's website, so I'll keep quiet.
It's not a new series, but if the volume is not listed, I won't say anything.

As I was working on that deadline, I got more work.

Oh! I looked, and this one is listed on the company's website.
(Just in case, I looked on Amazon too...it's there)

So currently I'm working on Shugo Chara #11.
I'll talk more about that in a different post.

Because as I was working on Shugo Chara #11, I got an inquiry from a new client.
It's still not full-on work, but if I get the job, I'm going to be really busy in January.
So right now I'm focused on finishing Shugo.

So...that's my past two months (work-related) in a nutshell.

Ack!

Oops, I've been ignoring this blog for more than a month.

After Comic-Con I was immediately busy volunteering at a tennis tournament.
The perks? I got to drive some pretty cool Mercedes.

Then, I got a secret job that I can't mention yet...

While finishing up Code Geass Queen 2.

So I've been pretty busy...

I've also been busy playing Dragon Quest 9, which I'll discuss in my next post.

Bare Necessities

The other day I went to a BBQ hosted by the men of my mixed doubles team.

We had it at P's house, a nice-looking condo in Playa Vista, right across from EA Games.
P had just moved in...he said March, which, considering that it's July now, is not "just moved in," but P has been busy working on TRON: Legacy.

Just like me, P is a guy who loves tennis who works in the entertainment industry.

So just as expected, almost NOTHING in his house was unpacked...
except for...

1) a 55" TV, mounted above the fireplace.
2) a Wii
3) a PS3
4) an Xbox 360
5) his computer (plus two monitors, since he's a CG animator)

Obvious necessities. I totally understand.

Here are some pictures of the BBQ.

We had 5 pieces of these chunks of Picanha beef.
P's hand is there to show how big it is.

Feast Time

Currently I'm working on three projects.
Simultaneously.
This is what I call "feast time."

I'm working on the Code Geass anthologies (ongoing),
a secret project soon to be revealed (maybe...I don't know. It's a NEW client!),
and I'll be starting work on Shugo Chara #10 this weekend.

I'm also preparing my trip to Fanime.
I'm not going to "work" as usual.
I'm meeting my three industry friends who live up there (one working at Company V, another in video game Company S, and one...I don't know where), plus my best friend from high school who works at one of the most famous companies in North California. (Not industry)

At Fanime, I hope to touch base with a few of my existing clients.
Company G, video game Company A, Company JC, etc...
I'll be going on Saturday and Sunday.

Of course, I will be checking out the Left 4 Dead 2 tournament to recruit online friends.

If anyone else is going, I hope to see you there!

1 Week to AX

Oops, I haven't posted in a while.
I recently finished a project that I'm not sure if I can talk about, and currently working on a different project that I'm also not sure if I can talk about.

I'm also working on Code Geass novel #3 and Shugo Chara #9.

I'm also preparing for Anime Expo 2009.
This year I am working for Company G, who has two Guests of Honor.
So I am also busy watching Gurren Lagann.

I'm not officially translating for the GoH's, but I will be hanging out with them.
I'm mostly there to take care of the CEO.

So, yeah, I've been pretty busy.
I'm also still working on getting my wrist nice and healed.
And honestly, that takes up a good chunk of my day.

I hope I can update again before AX, but if not...see you all at AX!

Audio Commentary

I'm currently working on translating an audio commentary.
I haven't done that for a while and I forgot how difficult it was.

This particular one that I'm doing is worse than the other ones I've done before because there are about 5 people talking, and most of the time two of them are talking over each other.

I only have to do about 48 minutes worth, but it's taking a long, long time.

After this I'll be working on Pumpkin Scissors #6.

New Stuff for Home Office

Oops.

I didn't blog for a week…

It's mostly because I wasn't able to work.
The cold weather finally kicked in here in LA, and it's affecting my wrist.
I was also waiting for my voice recognition software to arrive.

Now that I have the Dragon NaturallySpeaking preferred version 10, I can work, I can chat, and I can blog!

I also got my desk and new laptop.

(My laptop has slightly different specs)

I am ready to rock 'n roll!
…or not.

This blog entry was written using Dragon NaturallySpeaking software.

Holiday Cards (Japan)

I started working on the holiday cards.
Just the ones to send to Japan, because it takes longer to get there.

Usually I type out my text and print it on a sticker, then paste it onto the card.
Then I write, “Happy Holidays!!” and sign my name in English at the bottom.
It was a little hard writing the cards because of my hand…

So I’m working on it very slowly.
I hope I can get it all done by Monday and send it out.

By the way, it’s still not too late for my friends to request a card.
Remember to e-mail me your address!
